We are working hard, finding new people and we are having success! It is a process of finding and weeding out. The process is a little slow but this week we found 3 new investigators and many more future investigators. So we are feeling good about that because we are seeing a little bit of progress.

It is really strange that everything is now my last: last p-day, last time eating with different families, last district meeting, etc. I do not feel like I have enough time in the mission to be ending it already! But I feel very greatful for the time that I have had.
<![CDATA[Week of Searching]]>Mon, 01 Feb 2016 23:15:38 GMThttp://hermanasarahmalstrom.weebly.com/blog/february-01st-2016This week was a week of searching...and searching... We have talked with a ton of people and have entered various houses to sing a hymn or just say a prayer but we have yet to find any real new investigators. But we are searching with faith and we are using all the tools that we have. This week we will find the prepared people!

We have also been working as a zone to find new investigators. We have been doing a tour of the zone having tormentas blancas in the different areas which are working very well. It's a great way to do something fun and different and see different results.

One little miracle that happened this week is that Fernando Manzano found a job. In fact he found 2!! We are very happy for him!

Sorry there is not all that much to say this week but I am doing great!
<![CDATA[Miracles Miracles Miracles!]]>Mon, 01 Feb 2016 23:10:31 GMThttp://hermanasarahmalstrom.weebly.com/blog/miracles-miracles-miracles So this week was very stressful but very rewarding! It has been a crazy ride getting the Manzano family ready for baptism. We had planed to baptize the next Saturday but for various reasons we decided to bump forward the date and it has been such a miracle. On Monday we invited them to be baptized that Saturday they said that they wanted to be members. They were surprized when we told them that we had prayed about their date that that we felt that they were ready to be baptized. They did not realize their own progression and growth. But the happily accepted the date and it was a very spiritual experience for all. We received a firm confirmation that God wanted them to be baptized on the 16th.
Then on Tuesday we were reviewing some of the baptismal questions with them and we realized that Antonia would have to be interviewed by president Goates. Well it just so happened that President Goates was in San Juan doing interviews that week (which only happens about once every 3 months) and he was able to fit the interview in with his busy schedule. It was a miracle because if we had waited to have the baptism net week we would have found out that pres Goates had to interview her too late and we would have had to wait a few weeks more for him to find time to travel to San Juan to interview her! Well the whole family passed their interviews and president Goates said that it was a pleasure to interview her and that she is a great woman with strong faith.
After that we were running around like crazy chickens finding baptism clothes (especially hard for Antonia and her pregnant belly) and organizing all of the details. (It was very stressful on such short notice!!)
Finally Saturday came and many ward members were there to support them. It was a great spiritual experience and hna Matamoros and I just couldn’t stop smiling throughout the whole thing. It was just amazing. This week there were 6 baptisms here in San Juan!! A white weekend!
Analia also came to the baptism. She was the woman who gave us the reference. She went to the Manzano´s house one day to by a direct tv antenna that they were selling and she started to talk with them about the church. Well she took down their information and gave the reference to the elders in the ward. For one reason or another, the reference never made it to us. Analia felt very strongly that this family needed the gospel and she insisted that the elders send the reference again, marked as urgent and that is when we received the reference. It all started with Fernando loosing his job and selling the odds and ends in his house (the direct tv antenna) to make money to survive. This whole chain of events just proves to me that the Lord works in mysterious ways and that He truly prepares His children to receive the gospel in His time. This family is so special and they were truly prepared by God to accept the gospel now in their lives. Antonia on Sunday asked us when they will be able to go to the temple to be sealed. I feel very blessed to have been able to play a role in their conversion and their process of becoming a celestial family.
<![CDATA[Working With Amazing Families ]]>Mon, 01 Feb 2016 23:05:03 GMThttp://hermanasarahmalstrom.weebly.com/blog/working-with-amazing-familiesSo this week was interesting! So hna Matamoros was kinda sick for 2 days with really bad allergies and so we spent a good few, long days in the pench which didn’t really help our overall insanity...hehe But all is well and she can breath a little bit better now!
Apart from being in the pench, we have been able to work with the Manzano family. They are truly amazing!! They are progressing a ton! The kids love the primacy and yesterday after church they told us the whole story of Nephi and Lehi´s dream that they learned in primary that day. They were super excited when we gave each of them their own copy of the libro de mormon and started marking them right away. On Saturday we decided to do a little test and see if they would go to church without any help. We did not call them or even mention church to them and Fernando and the kids showed up early on Sunday dressed in white shirts and ties and Agustina in a skirt! (I don´t even know where they got the clothes!) They looked like members already. Antonia was unable to go to church because she is having lots of pain with her pregnancy. She has 6 months pregnant and the baby Mia already wants to be born. She can´t walk very well and she rolls over in pain every few minutes poor thing. We also talked with them about the plan of salvation and the temple and they want to be a forever family.
The only bad part about them is that Antonia is so sick and their economic situation. Fernando is trying everything to find work but he is just not having any luck and now they have almost nothing. Fernando is hardly even eating because there is not enough money to buy food for everyone. It truly is breaking my heart to see Fernando so depressed and suffering. We gave them a few things that we had stored in the pench to eat and we gave the kids little gifts from the day of the kings because they did not receive anything. I don’t know if that is the right thing to do but I can´t help watching them suffer so much. We talked with the 1st counselor of the bishopric about getting them help but he said that he does not think that it is right to help them out before they are members to avoid them just getting baptized for the help. He suggested that they should get baptized this week and then they can talk to the bishop and get financial help. We believe that they are ready for baptism it´s just that Antonia only has one church attendance and she needs 3 to get baptized and 1 week really doesn’t give us much time. We will talk to president Goates and see what he thinks and we are praying to know what is the best course of action to take for the family.
They are truly prepared by our father and they are truly humble and they need the gospel more than ever in their life. I know that they will get baptized and will be true converts to this gospel. I am very honored to be able to know them and teach them. Keep praying for them because they need the help!! =)
<![CDATA[Exciting News!!]]>Mon, 01 Feb 2016 22:55:15 GMThttp://hermanasarahmalstrom.weebly.com/blog/exciting-newsThese past two weeks have been a little crazy with Christmas and new years and all of that but it has been a very rewarding time.
The most exciting news to tell is about the Manzano family! In my last letter I mentioned a reference that we contacted from the elders in Chimbas and that we had a nice first lesson with them. Well we have been working a lot with them and they have gone to church 2 Sundays, and have accepted a baptism date for the 23 of enero!! They are so prepared! I can hardly believe their great progress in such short time! They went to the church 2 times and the second time they brought their libro de mormon and during the classes they were looking up the reference to the scriptures without any help, and they were both participating a lot in the classes and paying close attention to every detail. The 2 children (Agostina (9años) and Nacho (8 años) enjoyed the primary and Nacho said that he wants to get baptized, and he was so excited when we told him that he has just the right age to get baptized. Fernando is unemployed and many of the members have offered to help him find work and the stake is focusing a lot on autosuficiencia and they are offering the course mi camino this Saturday and they were able to enroll Fernando in the class. It´s crazy how everything is working out! We will be working super hard with them these next few week so that they will all be able to baptized together on the 23rd! Please pray hard for them because they are super awesome!!
<![CDATA[More Searching ]]>Mon, 01 Feb 2016 22:42:28 GMThttp://hermanasarahmalstrom.weebly.com/blog/more-searchingThis week was a pretty hard week. We have been struggling finding new investigators. The investigators we had were not progressing so we have put them on the backburner and we are searching and searching. But we have seen many small miracles this week while talking to everyone about Jesus Christ and Christmas.
The other day we received a reference from the elders in Chimbas and yesterday we contacted them. They are a couple that have had very strange problems with their new house, and they just want to have peace. Well we listened to their problems and then we sang a hymn and we offered a prayer in their house. I said the prayer and I felt the spirit very strongly. They did also. When I opened my eyes I saw that the mom, Antonia was crying and Fernando looked like he was about to. Antonia said that she felt a peace that she hadn’t felt in a very long time and they asked us when we can come back to visit them! They truly felt and recognized the spirit in the first lesson and they want more! It was a miracle and was a sweet way to end a hard week. I am learning the importance in not losing my hope and working patiently and diligently to the end because the true miracles usually happen at the end when you feel like you cant go on any more.
<![CDATA[Searching!]]>Mon, 01 Feb 2016 22:32:53 GMThttp://hermanasarahmalstrom.weebly.com/blog/searching This week we had our zone meeting, stake conference and we did a lot of service, which is great! We also have been doing a lot of "service" for the members this week to show them our love. To show our love for the ward members this Christmas we made homemade goodies and we tried to give them to the members secretly, but we are not very good ninjas so we just ended up giving them the gifts.
With the investigators.... well we can sum up the week with the phrase; "we are searching!!" we are struggling a little with finding people who are going to listen to us more than just once. But we are not getting down about that. We are trying to think of new ways to work with the members and to find new people to teach.

<![CDATA[Slow But Good Week ]]>Fri, 22 Jan 2016 20:24:32 GMThttp://hermanasarahmalstrom.weebly.com/blog/slow-but-good-week This week was a little slower for us but overall it was a good week. We had exchanges and I was with hna Diaz!!!! Woohoo! I love that little chillin! We also had a cool miracle during exchanges. It was the last hour of the day and our plan fell through so we went to the house of our backup plan who was Yamila, a reference from her mother who we talked with in the street, who we had tried many times to find. Well, this time she was sitting outside of her house with her sister and a friend and they let us come inside the house! We started talking and they are really cool girls. Yamilia is 22 years old and has cancer and her sister Ariana is 16 and is a cancer survivor. We talked with them for a little while and the conversation very naturally flowed into a gospel lesson. Both of the girls expressed their doubts about life and about other churches. Ariana every said that she has always wondered why there are so many churches when there is only 1 God? We were able to teach them about the atonement and that the way that we show our gratitud for Jesus is to keep his commandments and to follow the path that He leads. We then gave them a folleto about the restauracion and they themselves asked if they could go to the church!! Well they were unable to go this Sunday but they are great girls with great potential who are looking for the truth.
We are starting to use the new Church initiative, "Ha nacido un Salvador" (not sure exactly what that is in english... A savior is born?) And I am truly in love with the whole Christmas season and the spirit that you can feel when you talk about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The new videos on the church page are very powerful and really help the people to realize the hope and joy that Jesus ]]>
<![CDATA[Week of Miracles ]]>Fri, 22 Jan 2016 20:15:45 GMThttp://hermanasarahmalstrom.weebly.com/blog/week-of-miraclesThis week was a week of miracles.
This week we found 8 new investigators!! And the best part is that they are all families. I have never found so many new investigators in 1 week! There are also great people with lots of potential. We have been praying a lot to be able to find prepared people and I think that we may have found them. Now we are praying so that these new investigators will progress and accept baptism dates in the next lessons. We are working hard and are very excited.
Hna Matamoros and I are getting along very well. We are both crazy and we laugh all the time. We are working hard but also having fun!
<![CDATA[Eventful Week ]]>Fri, 22 Jan 2016 20:09:21 GMThttp://hermanasarahmalstrom.weebly.com/blog/eventful-weekThis week was very eventful!!
On Monday I traveled to Mendoza and we practice singing for a few hours. It went super well!! We sang a version of be still my soul and Savior redeemer of my soul in Spanish with the piano and violin. It was super pretty! It was also fun singing and hanging out with everyone.
Then on Tuesday we had the conference with elder Texera and elder Soares, both from Brazil with the whole mission. It was a good conference and a good reminder of what we need to focus on as missionaries. After the conference we had transfers. It was crazy. Everyone was saying bye to their old comps and finding their new ones. It was sad to leave Hna Avalos because we have truly learned a lot from each other and we have grown together. I am now with Hna Matamoros from Honduras! She is super cute, fun and crazy. I think this is going to be a great transfer! We have changed her name to matamalstrom because if we stay together for 1 more transfer (which is very possible) she will kill me haha I was born with a hodureña and I will die with one!! (I hope)
Anyway, after the conference and the craziness of transfers we got on the bus and we went back to San Juan. Hna Matamoros and I have already seen various milagros in our short time together. I am excited about where things are going with our relation with the ward and with our work on finding new investigators that are truly prepared by the Lord. I am excited to work hard and really make every moment count.
